When Miriam was a young girl, she was fascinated by the gymnasts from the hard-to-pronounce country of Czechoslovakia. Later, as a teenager, God used MTW missionaries to open her eyes and her heart to the possibility of serving as a cross-cultural missionary. While at Covenant College, Miriam had the privilege of participating in a study- abroad program for a semester in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Following graduation, she again felt God’s call to missions. In 1999, Miriam went to Trnava, Slovakia, to serve as a two-year missionary with MTW, and she ended up serving there for a total of ten years. Her time in Trnava was spent building relationships, discipling teenagers, organizing English camps, and helping plant a church. The work in Trnava came to a close, and the church plant became an official church in January 2018. The church has fruitfully continued without missionaries and is an official church with a Slovak pastor.

In 2012 Miriam was privileged to adopt her son, Evan. Two years later Miriam and Evan moved to Zlín, Czech Republic, where Miriam supported the local Czech church by serving women and teenage girls, teaching English, helping with administration, organizing and planning discipleship weeks, and assisting with English camp. In the Lord’s providence, the young adults and the church faithfully continue the ministry without the aid of missionaries.

In 2021, Miriam and Evan moved to Prague to work with DoSlova (“In the Word”), a Czech/English church plant. Miriam ministers to children and youth, encourages disciples, and helps with church administration. Together the Czech team is developing a multicultural community to serve the people of Prague through the gospel of Christ.
